What is a CVV

A CVV, or Card Verification Value, is a three or four-digit-security code on your credit or debit card, used to verify that you possess the physical card when making online or phone purchases. It’s an extra layer of security to help prevent fraud. For Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, it’s typically the three digits on the back of your card, usually on or above the security strip. For American Express, it’s a four-digit number.
