What is deregulation
What is deregulation?
Deregulation in Texas was the separation of electricity generation and distribution. Texas' deregulated market opened in 2002 after the passage of Texas Senate bill 7 and means many customers have the opportunity to choose their Retail Electric Provider (REP). The shift to a deregulated market provides for competition and freedom to shop around for the best plan to fit their needs. Not all of Texas is deregulated. Some pockets of the state are still served by municipalities or CO-OPs. More than 75% of Texas is deregulated today.
